Rana releases Ghana’s best and probably most expensive music video
Music trio Rana has exceeded expectations with the release of their latest music video Mr. Cupid which has been adjudged by many as the country’s best music video till date.
The video which aired for the first time on some of the country’s television stations, features Tema-based rapper Dadie Opanka, and it is a masterpiece bound to break boundaries and win awards.
Pundits who spoke to Myjoyonline.com were impressed with the video with many saying it is a breath of fresh air to the Ghanaian music industry calling on others to emulate same to win laurels for the country.
Management of the group, Imajin Records, told Myjoyonline.com that the high budget video was directored by Kumasi-based director Nick Baeta, of Jenirex Multimedia Consult, and was shot on locations in Kintampo, Kumasi and Accra.
The video which was shot with 5D Cameras took six days to shoot, more than two months to edit, and although management of the artistes are tight lipped, it estimated to cost over US$30,000 (about 600 million cedis).
Management said an abandoned train station at Asafo, a timber factory at Oforikrom, and a warehouse had to be revamped just for the video shoot alone.
One unique feature of the video was the opening scene which was shot at a hilly area in Kimtampo. The well shot scene depicts the trio, made up Selasi Kofi Ocloo (Kofi), Daniel Kojo Soboh (Kojo) and Cornelius Phanthomas (Kobi), falling from the sky like aliens.
With impressive visual effects, costumes and spot on choreography, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the video scoops awards in Ghana or at the MTV Base Music Video Awards, Channel O Awards and other international awards.
Rana, which means The Sun in Hausa, has several hits such as Me Luv Letter, Baby Baby and Kiss Me to its credit.
They are no strangers to good videos as they have dazzled Ghanaians with unique videos such as Me Luv Letter, Baby Baby and Fly With Me
