Vintage Tic Tac lights up Oseikrom

Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, witnessed one of its biggest parties as hiplife great, Tic Tac made the Garden City, the second stop for his Club 2 Club tour. The venue was the Vienna City Nite Club.

With a hugely successful career, nothing less was expected from the man whose unique style and sense of rap never ceases to amaze many. He has over the years signed his name in the history books of Ghanaian and African music in general and he equally brought that to bear in Kumasi.

Revellers in the Garden City usually warm up to shows slowly, this one was no exception. Fans started trickling into the venue – both the indoor and open air space of the club – past midnight, and nevertheless, by 1am, Vienna City was parked to capacity.

The massive turnout, according to organisers, might have been influenced by the huge success chalked up by the first stop of the tour, Tarkoradi, which came off on November 5.

The tour is a pre-album, party and video premiere and it is planned to give fans an opportunity to be the first viewers of his two videos -Gallo and Feel The Heat.

After revellers were treated to some exciting tunes from the man behind the turn-tables, DJ Champaign, it was time for the stage performances.

New acts including Jeho and Ephraim warmed up the audience while Tema-based rapper Dadie Opanka got them ecstatic – He had a huge fan base in Kumasi and they enjoyed every bit of his stay.

Hiphop artiste, Scientific was also on stage to add more spice to the show. Known for his English rap which is unpopular to the Kumasianos, Scientific still performed to the delight of many. He performed several of his tracks including the hit song, I Like You Girl.

Nigerian artiste based in Ghana, Eze, followed suit. He dazzled fans with his dance moves but what caught their eyes was his attempt to give a go at the ever popular azonto dance. That attempt was a bit of a replica of the azonto dance but the crowd loved it anyway. Eze was followed by Wutah Kobby of Wutah fame.

Soon, it was time for one of the headline acts for the night to take stage. Tinny was hyper and the crowd were equally excited to see him.

Language lost its significance here – considering the fact that Tinny is a Ga rapper and Kumasi being a-Twi zone. He was on point throughout his performance and yes the fans danced to his tunes – I Believe I Can Fly and Regular Champion among others.

The man of the night, Tic Tac’s entry was preceded by guest DJ, Nigerian DJ Humility who also happens to be Tic Tac’s personal DJ. DJ Humility did wonders behind the turn-tables. He gave the audience a treat of a lifetime. His antics behind the turn-tables were just magnificent.

When Tic Tac was finally ushered onto the stage, it was as if a true warrior of ‘Asanteman’ had returned home after a long sojourn. He was greeted with loud cheers with many trying to break free from the barricades controlling the huge crowd from going overboard – that got the security detail at the venue busy.

It was the late 90s all over again. Tic Tac went back into time to fetch some of his greatest tracks. Starting off with Kwani Kwani, revellers were caught reminiscing the good old days. Soon, they became his 'playlist' requesting classic tunes they wanted to hear.

Tic Tac performed several classics including Philomena, Beware of Dogs, Kangaroo, Fefe Ne Fe, icing it up with some of his latest cuts including Gallo which featured Gyadublay Ambolley. The videos for Galloand Feel The Heat were also premiered at the venue.

The show was emceed by Jon Germain with support from Abeiku Santana and Andy Dosty. Sexy Confidence Haugen was also in attendance.

Another activity that highlighted the event was the special azontodance competition where a bevy of Kumasi’s finest skimpy dressed ladies battled to outwit each other on the dance floor. Ghana’s bestazonto dancer, Laska also put up a splendid performance.
